San Gimignano
The town of the fair towers.

The first settlement to rise upon the hill of today's San Gimignano, was almost undoubtedly Etruscan. a number of archaeological finds and tombs have been brought to light, but the local dialect and even the place-names of the district evoke their Etruscan origin.

The heart of the town is the Cathedral Square, where the three most important medieval buildings in the town face each other.
